A Night at the Refuge: Stars Edition

August 8, 2026

Step into one of the most unforgettable night photography experiences you’ll ever have — A Night at the Refuge: Stars Edition. This unique workshop takes place inside Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, where you’ll learn the essentials of Milky Way photography while the sounds of lions, tigers, and other big cats echo across the night.

This is where education meets adrenaline, and where the natural world feels bigger, wilder, and more alive than ever.

What You’ll Learn:

🌌 Milky Way Basics

Perfect for beginners, we’ll walk through everything you need to capture the night sky with confidence. From camera settings to menu functions, you’ll gain the foundational skills to create your first Milky Way images.

🔍 How to Focus in the Dark

We’ll break down easy, reliable methods to achieve tack-sharp focus at night — no guesswork, no frustration.

Capturing the Core

Learn how to expose, frame, and photograph the glowing center of our galaxy as it rises above Freedom Field.

👂 A Sensory Experience

While your eyes adjust to the stars, your ears will be treated to the powerful roars of the big cats settling in for the night — an atmosphere unlike anything else.

Why This Event Is Special:

This workshop is exclusive, with extremely limited participation to ensure a safe, intimate, and immersive experience.

And best of all — 100% of the proceeds are donated directly to Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, supporting their mission of rescuing and caring for abused, abandoned, and neglected big cats and other animals.  Be sure to also check out their Digital Download Video, “Uncharted” to learn more about a few of the residents.

To maximize your experience, you can also stay the night with the wild cats on the Turpentine property in Safari Suites, a Tree House, Glamping Tents, and even RV spaces!

SPACE IS LIMITED FOR TEACHING PURPOSES AND TO KEEP COMPOSITIONS UNCLUTTERED.

Brennen Nicole's Dreamscapes workshop at White Sands National Park was an amazing experience. She took us to the perfect locations that she had scouted ahead of the workshop, and provided each participant personal attention to ensure everyone came home with an incredible image. The editing portion of the workshop was just as incredible as the photography. She is a very knowledgeable and patient instructor and helped each one of us at our own level to edit the images we captured in the field. Highly recommend!

The workshop was magnificent~! Her timing and instructions (verbal, written, and in person) make it easy to follow along and she leaves plenty of time for questions and problems with equipment. I had a such a relaxing but exhaustive 3 day weekend! Up at 3:30am to catch the first rising of the Milky Way... Homemade breakfast with more food than we could eat! Every detail well thought out for so many memories and a great experience! Thanks you, Brennen.

I got to experience the San Juan color tour with Brennen this fall. It was a dream trip. I learned so much from Brennen and she brought us to the most beautiful places. I can’t believe that I took some of the photos I’ve collected from this trip. I highly recommend Brennen- she’s professional, fun, encouraging, and down to earth. I’ll definitely be looking for more opportunities in the future with her!

Brennen is an excellent workshop leader. She works hard to make experienced to beginner photographers comfortable and strives to give any level photographer new skills. I am a fairly experienced photographer and she taught me some great new techniques. I took her fall Colorado tour in September 2025. The workshop was well organized and filled with many opportunities for photography experiences. I highly recommend her workshop and tours.
