Itinerary:

9 Days / 8 Nights | Midnight Sun Edition

This expedition spans Iceland from coast to highlands, blending iconic locations with rugged backcountry access. Our route is flexible by design, allowing us to adapt to weather, light, and conditions—because in Iceland, the best moments are often unscheduled.

**Due to the sunset and sunrise times for Iceland during Summer, there is no actual dark night, which means no aurora viewing is possible.  However, we will be capturing what is called the Midnight Sun where sunset is around 11 PM and sunrise is about 2 AM.  We will have a Blue Hour that last about 2 hours to explore primitive hot springs in the area and other attractions while we wait for sunrise.  This tour is also scheduled around the Full Moon which is incredible to watch from such a Northern perspective.

We will be back to the hotel around 4 AM each morning to sleep and eat on our own schedules until meeting back up around 7 PM to explore again.  This schedule might seem cumbersome, however due to the time difference from the US, it will feel more like exploring from 2 PM until 11 PM.

  • Day 1
    • Arrive on the 7 AM flight (will feel like 2 AM CST) from the US where you will be picked up and escorted to Blue Lagoon to soak away the jetlag before checking into the first hotel for an afternoon nap.  We will then meet up around 7 pm to head east along Iceland’s legendary South Coast, where waterfalls and sea cliffs define the landscape. We’ll see famous falls like Seljalandsfoss (walk-behind waterfall) and Skógafoss, Black sand beaches and dramatic coastal formations, puffins at Dyrhólaey, and have first encounters with Icelandic wildflowers and sheep while we photograph until the after sunrise around 4 am.
  • Day 2
    • Tonight we enter glacial country—an otherworldly mix of ice, water, and light.

Highlights include Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, Diamond Beach, Icebergs, reflections, and abstract compositions with long exposures and intimate details.

  • Day 3
    • A night dedicated to one of Iceland’s most dramatic mountain landscapes at Vestrahorn.  It’s a photographer’s paradise with both wide angle and telephoto compositions, a great place to practice panoramas, atmospheric conditions permitting gives great reflections and moody light, see Viking history, and take in the East side of Iceland.

      This is a photographer’s day—slow, intentional, and light-driven.

  • Day 4 & 5
    • Highlands Exploration begins where we leave paved roads behind and enter Iceland’s remote interior.  We will travel by 4WD vehicle through river crossings and rough terrain to see vast landscapes and braided rivers, while soaking in some of the most primitive hot springs in the country.  Think minimal crowds and raw terrain.  The Highlands are weather-dependent and unpredictable, but that’s the magic.
  • Day 6 & 7
    • We’ll head to the opposite side of the country to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, a region packed with coastal cliffs, waterfalls and fishing villages, the famous Black Church and watch the sky set fire over Kirkjufell and Kirkjufellsfoss.
  • Day 8
    • The last full day of our tour will bring us back to civilization, giving us time to explore the city, architecture, and harbor.  While we’re there, we will also visit Sky Lagoon for a final moment of relaxation before our flight home.
  • Day 9
    • Early morning transportation back to the airport for the 7 AM flight back to the US.

* TUITION INCLUDES LODGING, TRANSPORTATION FOR DURATION OF WORKSHOP, ENTRY FEES, PERMIT FEES, & LAGOON PASSES.
